Pics from today;
1. Little guy at the ed/re-training center for war widows.
2. Two sisters at the same.
3. Three sweaty guys at the center. Hauled 400 bags (4 at a time) down a long, hot, narrow, urine-stinky alley to bring them needed supplies. See picture 5 to see some of them. A 14-year-old orphan girl kept giving me flowers, tea, date bars, and stuff (I kept being shy and saying excuse me in Dari, and think she may have developed a crush on the big, goofy, polite american). I had to stand in the doorway a few times 'cause we'd end up in the room alone, and I think that's scandalous in A-stan (or could possibly mean we're married or something!). 14 is the marrying age here!
4. Afghan doc and our Nurse Practitioner doing medevals.
5. BDAPS (Big Dog And Pony Show) out front. Each bag had clothes, a bag of sanitary napkins (very humorous and embarassing event trying to explain how to use them with a terp, probably should've filmed it, they'll mostl likely use them for something else!), some tea, and some stuff for their kids.
6. At the disabled veteran's home. Pretty brutal. For every person killed (1-2 million of their 30 million population) it's estimated that there are 3-6 permanently wounded. A-stan leads the world in amputees (mostly because the Soviets put in about a million mines each year they were here - 10 years). 1st rule of the Ghan (other than "you don't talk about the Ghan!") is follow the tracks in front of you, and NEVER get off the roads! Really restricts your chance to see the sights (but it'll be nice to come home with all my Sean-parts).
7. Three of the hundreds of disabled/maimed vets there.
Love,
Sean
